The life of a doctor is quite hard, especially during COVID-19. In UK, COVID started spreading around April 2020, and the frontline workers have been working at their best, trying to control the horrendous and most contagious virus. In my hospital, there were about 10 COVID wards. We work as a team and the consultants are very supportive.
When, for the first time, I was assigned to take the blood of a COVID Patient, I was a bit nervous but took it bravely as it falls in my line of duty. Then it became a part of regular duty.
Sometime in May, my worst nightmare came true, when I got COVID symptoms. As per Hospital rules and regulations, I was asked to go for 7 days self- isolation. At first, I was extremely scared at the thought of the consequences, but then I decided to face it bravely. By God’s grace, all the symptoms gradually disappeared and my swab test was Negative and rejoined duty on the 10th day. Though it was the toughest phase I had ever gone through in my life, being away from my parents, Dr. Ansu Catherine ( my roommate), was indeed very supportive and helpful. Dr. Harris Marath, Consultant in my Hospital, Dr.Satish.K, Consultant (Satish uncle) and Maya aunty from Hull , Shony uncle and Jayanti aunty from Manchester, were supportive and reassuring. Achan, Amma and Arathi, never made me feel that I was alone, and always supported me and encouraged me to feel as if it was all normal.
Hope the world will have a vaccine at the earliest, and let us all fight together against this Virus and bring back the lovely days again.
Hats off to all the COVID front liners out there, trying their best to curb the virus and all those striving every day to make our lives beautiful.
